Everyone…

*sigh*

I don’t know quite how to put this. I have some good news, and I have some bad news.

Let’s start with the bad news, shall we? That way we can wrap our wounds in the good. Today… is a difficult day… but a special one. One that will be long remembered in the history of our little sport. For on this day…

*deep breath*

The FDL… was no more.

*hands out calming the crowd* Hold on! Hold on, everyone! Please, calm yourselves, please! Just hear me out!

Yes, it’s true, as of today, what we know as the FDL… has been dissolved; kaputt, gone, burned to the ground, the end.

Now, I know what you’re thinking:

“What the hell, dude?! I spent over a week working on these picks!”
“I thought you were making a friggin trophy for us!! I already cleared off a section of my mantle!”

I know, I know… and you think I’d let you do all that work in vain?! Of course not! Because you haven’t heard the good news yet… for also on this day… and from of the ashes of the former FDL… a phoenix has risen. And that bird… is known… solely as…

THE LARK!

That’s right, ladies and gentlemen. From this day forward the FDL is no more. Henceforth, it shall have a new name. And a Lark by any other name, does not smell sweet at all.

So how does this affect you? Well, luckily, only in a few small ways:

  1. There is now a new hashtag for twitter: #thelark. Get rid of that old #sytycd-fdl. That sucker is so May 2009, and frankly, it’s just too painful to look at. If you feel inclined, you can always add #sytycd as a separate hashtag to the tweet to give it show relevance.
  2. Tags across other networks like FB and Tumblr will similarly be The Lark.
  3. You are now all 2009 Larkers. Get this FDLer nonsense out of your head.
  4. If you see anyone, on any social network, or in real life referring to this competition as The FDL, please, PLEASE, do your part to let them know about the unfortunate events of this day. And if their head shall fall at this news… gently lift their chin again… gaze into their glassy eyes and with a smile, whisper… “The Lark”.

Oh, and I’m working on a new logo. Check it out:

What do you think? Too much razzle dazzle?
