That dude is awesome. Period. Ken Leung is awesome. Comma. And I friggin loved this episode. Exclamation Point.

I suppose most of my posts paint me as a guy who only digs the NatGeo angle of the show. But the truth is, I’d trade in every statue, polar bear fossil, volcanic cave with a donkey wheel at it’s chewy candy center, Anubis, Sekhmet, Mickey Mantle, Kerouac… every hieroglyph- well maybe not every hieroglyph- but I would give up almost all of that stuff for just few moments of sincere inner character struggle. Locke and his dad. Jack and his Ex-Wife. Our strong, confident Le Flur trying to keep from crumbling back into Sawyer.

And I thought this episode was chock full of it… ranks close to the top for me.

I mean, come on, we all knew who the baby was. I’ve been saying it for months: Chang and Miles are both irritable as hell… they had to be related. But check it out:

Miles stares in at the father who was never there for him, as his younger self is given the kind of love he always wanted from the man.

Is he relieved? Now that he knows his father did care? Is he scared or sad for the kid… knowing how its life will turn out? Or… is he now flirting with Hurley’s simple yet alluring concept of time travel… wondering if maybe things can change?! Whether their presence here has altered something… something that could allow his younger self to live the life he never had? If so, does that make him happy… or jealous?

Shit’s deep, yo.

I mean, whose right cheek didn’t tighten a bit when Chang walked out and said “Miles, I need you.”… “You do?”……… Damn, mine did again just typing that.

Okay, enough of the sap. Let’s get to a little theoriosity shall we:

Miles’ mother looked like she was dying of cancer didn’t she? I think it’s now pretty safe to say the Dharma Initiative was exposed to some serious radiation. The Swan, Jughead. We can check that off our list, right? We’d have to assume Miles is okay because he wasn’t exposed for long, but my guess is the rest would have suffered the same fate if the Purge hadn’t killed them first. And yeah, Ben’s tumor is likely linked as well. But how about Mile’s powers?

We got a little more info on that plane at the bottom of the ocean. Our dead man was on his way to deliver those photos and plane-order from Season 4. We’re led to believe he was working for Widmore… and was probably killed by Tom… who then confiscated the materials before showing them to Michael. Hmmm… it’s complicated. Seems like such an odd package… why would anyone make something like that? I know some of you have signed off on “hoax plane theory”…. I’m still holding off.

What lies in the shadow of the statue? Well, I guess they’re really asking. I assumed it was some kind of code. But if they really want to know, here are two thoughts I had.

  • Someone said that the Orchid Station lies in the shadow of the statue we saw this season. I would go a step further and say that the donkey wheel may have once laid in the shadow of the statue. It’s totally possible that this Island’s past volcanic eruption covered vast areas of land in volcanic rock. That donkey wheel may have once been above ground. Also an interesting bit of trivia that takes us back to my Atlantis theory: I found this great blog post while doing a bit of research.
  • This might be stretching it a bit, but is it possible that they’re using the word “lies” differently than we think? I mean, with all the lying happening on this show… they could be.

And who is Bram working for? Eloise Hawking? She’s the only one who knew all of that flight info. And it’s conceivable that she’s a third faction in this war. I don’t know why, but I feel like this is somehow linked to that group of scientists who arrived at the end. Maybe cause Faraday was with them.

And for this last bit, I’d like to introduce you all to our new resident egyptologist, @edrafalko. Ed is one of my oldest tweeps. Been there since the beginning (March 08). And yet, I know very little about the dude… except that sometimes he appears online in the form of a sasquatch… sometimes a sphinx… and sometimes a sort of skull type thingy. And recently I learned that he can read hieroglyphics. So I asked if he wouldn’t mind lending a hand on a couple posts I have in store. He knows absolutely nothing about Lost except some screen caps I provided him.

Chalk Board Lost

Chalk Board Lost

Chalk Board Lost

And here’s what he had to say:

I only see glyphs on the left side of the board- top line reads, almost literally, ‘markings from a Town God’s Mouth’.

The circle with the x in it is almost always a marker for a place name, but his translation doesn’t mention it. He’s got it as ‘writing of the words of God’. I think that’s not complete.

UPDATE: Ok, I think the top line reads ‘The language of the Land of the Gods’ and the bottom line reads ‘(unknown) many mysteries’.

Interesting to me is that the last two glyphs are close ( but not identical to) the symbol for the city of Thebes, across from Luxor, and near the Valley of the Kings- but his example dates to 2600 bc and they didn’t start using the Valley for Royal burials until almost a thousand years after that!

Actually, Ed, that says before 2600 bc. Perhaps thousands of years before; labeled as Archaic Egyptian… and listed as coming before Old Egyptian on the right. Hmmm… Archaic, huh? I like that. That word could end up replacing “Ancient” here at johncabrera.com. Big news.

So what’s everyone else’s take?
