The pity vote. It happened. Nobody’s proud of that fact, but it did. Ashleigh is going through to the finale. And Mollee, who gave her best performance of the season was… as my dad would say, “dropped like a banana”.
I don’t know why he says that.
I guess, I didn’t realize until after the fact, how so many viewers, including myself… could be that manipulated. But looking back on it all again, it was pretty obvious, wasn’t it? Ryan pleading to us to save her, the subtle assurance that we’d be given a prize if we do (the married couple dancing), the judges imploring us to consider everything she’s done, begging us not to sit back idly… to vote!
But will that backfire? How many people in America are sitting back in shock now, muttering to themselves, “I was bamboozled… hoodwinked… tricked into shattering a young girl’s dreams.”
Okay, maybe that’s a little much. I mean, her and Nathan did move forward at least twice in the competition when their performance certainly didn’t warrant it. There have been quite a few hearts broken this season. Yes, Ashleigh got a free pass last night, but Noelle got a free one into the Tour too.
The bottom line is this competition’s been all over the place this season. It’s seen some of the best dancing and choreography in the show’s history, for sure… but its cracks have also exposed a lot of the machine underneath… a machine that, at times, is more concerned with delivering “Good TV” than a fair competition.
But that’s to be expected. Which is why we here, at The Lark, have had to rise up! Fill in some of that competitive void!
Last night was a tough decision for us Larkers. One of the toughest we’ve had to make. Kudos to those who saw through the tactics and landed some bonuses.
But a special congrats to the 11 Gunners now in this competition. Some of you may have been wondering whether unlocking The Dart Gun required getting both bonus picks as well as the safe girl. In the new set of rules, the only criteria is your safe girl… so that’s what it is.
But I’d like to give a special mention to Yan, the only player to get both of their bonus picks along with their safe girl. Actually, the only one to get both of their bonus picks at all. Congrats! As a special prize, I have decided to give you the coveted “Red Gun”. It doesn’t do anything different than the “Black Gun”… but it just looks sizzlin hot!
We still have our power player, Amrie, very far in the lead. And Amrie is now armed and dangerous. That being said, she also has Ashleigh at the absolute bottom of her card.
Amrie, I know you’re crossing your fingers that the Wrath of Kahn comes for Ashleigh next week. Cause you do not want her winning this. There are also a few Gunners who have broken 100. If they pick the right player, they could see themselves with an extra 12 points… and that could give them the edge they need against the deadliest player in Lark history.
And if you didn’t get The Dart Gun, or you’re just too far behind (i.e…. me), you’re still an important part of this Lark. These Gunners are gonna be looking for easy targets, and I’m sure they’ll be considering Larkers who they think have thrown in the towel. Don’t give them that satisfaction next week!
Here are the current standings:

Gah! all I can say is gah! I so don’t agree with Ashleigh going through, it’s not fair. And yeah, Mollee danced really good this time, she deserved going to the finals. And Ryan, oh Ryan, I like him, I really do, but he’s not better than Legacy, I mean, his solo was OMFG!
So I’m left keyless and gunless, oh well, sucks, jaja.

I was unhappy with the whole top 6 idea let alone a top 6 without Legacy.
JP-you put Nathan instead of Legacy as this week’s cut in the bracket, just FYI . Don’t worry. I too am in denial.

Thanks for the catch there Kate. That was just a typo. The scores don’t change since I input those values in a different way.
And I know they keep saying, “Ryan this isn’t even your style,” but I’m sorry, there’s a big difference between disco not being Ryan’s style and say, oh…. HIP HOP!!! That guy only danced hip hop once! And he struggled with it just as much as Legacy has in ballroom. Make no mistake, this is about what the show wants the top 6 to look like. This Ashleigh/Ryan duet coming up next week is the story point they’ve been leading up to all season. If anything, that’s why they worked so hard on Monday to persuade America. Uh oh! My conspiracy theories are coming back, y’all betta watch out!

Awesome!
Now I really have to read those rules carefully again… I actually thought, that you need to get the bonus picks & the first girl right… did you change that rule, John, or did I missunderstand that? Either way, I’m happy I got it.
I unlocked the Cage & the Dart Gun
I’m still very disappointed that Ashleigh got a free pass to the finale! She should have been disqualified, as should have been Noelle in the Top 20 show. Was that the first season with injuries?
And how can America be so manipulated? I actually hoped that Ryan’s “heartbreaking” (no, not really!) begging would’ve been THE reason NOT to call… but people just go for that crap. Sorry, I don’t want to offend anyone, I’m just a bit mad.
And honestly, I totally don’t care about the Ryan/Ashleigh duet, I still don’t really like them that much and they just didn’t deserve to be in the finale…
All in all it has been a crazy season, probably too rushed. I mean at first 2 shows with no elimination show due to the World Series (?) and now a Top 6 finale due to Christmas. Why couldn’t they plan that better?

Ashleigh and Ryan better watch out. Once this show gets the married couple dance, I’d lay good money on the judges laying it on thick why those two should go.
December 11, 2009 at 8:16 am
And what do you want to bet they “draw” freaking ballroom. You know it’s going to happen.
I wanted those two to get their one way ticket back to Utah….until finale group dance
I was SO close to breaking a hundred dang it!

I can only echo the sentiment – Ashleigh should have been disqualified >:l
John you put in all these extra twists to give Larkers like me a glimmer of hope and still I fail, grrr
Carmen you are dead right about Ryan and his tears, I was sure that would work against him.
I thought Nathan’s tears would suck everybody in but I was wrong, that totally backfired for him!
Clearly I don’t know what the voters want but if Jakob doesn’t win this thing outright I will never watch SYTYCD again!
Note: I made the same empty threat after the seasons that Travis and Neil were robbed
December 11, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Rae, I agree 100%. I’d be surprised it they didn’t go next. And one more thing about the upcoming married couple dance… am I the only one totally dreading a sloppy french kiss happening at some point during the number?
December 14, 2009 at 8:11 am
No John, you’re not the only one. I may be kinda mean, but I’m hoping their dance to be so boring and chemistry-less, so all the people that voted for them get what they deserve… angry much? lol.

Bananas have spiders.
