Rock Hop
Last night’s episode… here’s what I took away:
- Jonathan is hugging a lot of people between tonight an tomorrow.
- Melissa is SMOKING hot.
- There was a Conan the Barbarian themed Paso Doble.
- Mia believes a female dancer shouldn’t be insecure about drawing attention to her butt on national television. No ma’am.
- Phillip jumped it!! He friggin JUMPED it!!!!!
- Vitolo is now the NKOTB that all of America wants to marry.
- Brandon is a Class III Dancing Android.
- Kayla is a Class IV(b) Dancing Android.
- And Janette is a Cuban nerd from Miami……. hmmm… sounds familiar.
And this was my favorite piece:

Conan the Barbarian LOL! the music Jean-Marc used put me into sputter mode, but all the descriptions of the costumes have been hilarious (Princess Leia, I Dream of Genie, Aladdin, 300). Still doesn’t make up for the fact that those poor kids were forced to dance a paso to Carmina Burana.
Brandon and Janette look even better on multiple viewings. She matches him in energy and attitude.

Here are my thoughts from last night’s show.
- I didn’t actually think that Karla did that bad with the hip-hop, but Jonathan was atrocious and made the whole thing bad.
- I am still bored by Asuka and Vitolio. They’re both good dancers technically, but they haven’t been able to translate off the stage and through the screen to pull me in.
- I liked that Toni Basil mentioned how hot Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin. I know they’re not competing, but I remember watching them in Latin ballroom championships on PBS as a kid (yes, I suppose that makes me a nerd), and no offense to any of the SYTYCD dancers, but I’m not sure they can ever be as hot as Tony & Melanie were.
- Brandon & Janette are probably my favorite couple. They haven’t done a performance yet that I haven’t liked (can’t say the same for most of the others). She may not be the best technically, but Janette is definitely my favorite out of the females.
- Normally, I love the Paso Doble. It’s one of my favorite dances, but even without the breaks in form, the costumes and music kind of ruined it for me.
- The butt dance was definitely not my favorite Mia number, but it was alright. I thought Evan and Randi danced it well.
- I liked Kayla and Kupono as a couple. It was nice. And I think Kupono’s face/eyes combo is strikingly beautiful.
- It’s amazing! A Tyce Diorio Broadway number that I liked. I would definitely go see Jeannine on Broadway. Agreed w/ the judges that Phillip still needs to work harder.
Sorry, kinda long!

Yay! Finally had the chance to watch it – and wow. Seriously.. how hard was it to give picks RIGHT at the start? I keep rethinking who my favourites are.. this week’s episode had more highlights for me than last week.
LOVED Philip & Janine!! So adorable, and I loved it more than the judges I think!
Definitely agree that Jonathan had to go.. he just seemed to be like a boy cheerleader from Bring it On trying to be a dancer. Just.. didn’t hit the mark. That being said, I LOVED his performance with Karla last week.
I did whimper along with the audience with the way Vitolio looked and hugged Asuka. It was TOO adorable for words but I just never warmed to her, as ‘cute’ as she was. There was just something missing..
I freaking LOVE LOVE Melissa & Ade as a couple – possibly the most. I really do.. I love Kupono, LOVE him, but each week so far, Melissa & Ade have my attention, she’s phenomenal, stunning, he’s… BUFF, and charismatic, and.. the comb/pick thing fascinates me. It distracts me. LOL. Second favourite couple? Randi & Evan I think.
(I thought these two should have been on the hot tamale train more than Kayla)
Brandon… totally, shocked me. Even in that rehearsal piece, just seeing his locking moves, WHOA!!! I loved it! It was a very funky piece, it was fun!
..and I totally just realised that Brandon reminds me of Carlton from Fresh Prince of Bel Air.. don’t ask me his actual name. LOL. Don’t you think?
I really don’t like paso dobles, or tangos.. but it was very Conan the Barbarian. I was just bored by that routine I think.

John, I finally got a chance to catch a little bit of the show. I only caught a couple of the dances. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but the first one I saw was Asuka and Vitolio. I was like, “don’t they have to at least have some skill to appear on the show?” It looked mechanical and clunky and off timing. I wasn’t impressed, and I wasn’t even sure I was watching the right show. And they way overdid the rock gesture and tongue thing, but that can be overlooked since they were obviously still in the moment. The next one I saw was Melissa and Ade. That was flippin’ fantastic. I normally think that using the flesh as a selling point for a dance is a bit cheap, but the whole thing was ridiculously good. Really snappy movements when they were needed, and really smooth fluid motions when they were needed. Really impressed. Then my pizza order was called and I missed some for a bit, and tuned back in for that horrid butt dance. What in the shit was that? It looked like they were epileptic or spasmatic. Is that really dance? I’ll admit I’m not a hugely knowledgeable contemporary dance critic, but that stumbling, gyrating, booty shaking thing was just.. not stellar, imho. Creative, but ridiculous. But that’s all I saw.
I wish I could have been watching this from the beginning of the season, as I’m sure I could have lots of insight by this point. I feel like I just want to run around and judge people now. I love these shows.
Cheers.

ok, i gotto say.. i think Melissa & Ade and Evan and Randi are my fav couples!
Melissa has an AMAZING body and to top it off I love how amazingly fluid they always are in all the dances they have performed..and Melissa’s adorable personality makes me even more of a fan!
I know lots of people didnt really dig the “butt” dance.. but i gotto say.. i thought it was brilliant!
the idea behind it, the way they made it so fun to watch.
and yeah, asuka was cute and all.. but i agreed that she was not really growing as much as the other girls. and johathan, adorable as he was.. well.. just kinda relied on his flips.. so i think the elimination was pretty fair this week.
all i know is that its gonna start getting REALLY hard from now on for elimination time!
