Not Gone…
So, since John’s still away, I can still play.
Just for a little bit, anyways. I wanted to do a post like this but completely forgot so yay! Now, I can.
The Fall TV season is upon us. What are y’all watching? Also, can we talk a little bit about the Emmys, too?
Besides my NCIS, Frasier, and Will & Grace re-runs along with HGTV & Food Network shows, I kind-of have a longish list of TV shows that I watch (live and/or DVR). That’s what happens when you’re currently looking for a full-time job; you tend to have a lot of free time on your hands.
Maybe eventually I can polish that spec script that I have…
Anyways, here are the list of shows that I look forward to:
Must See TV:
- The Office- I started watching in the middle of the 3rd season and I’ve been hooked since. Well, it’s kind-of been waning lately but it’s still one of my top shows.
- How I Met Your Mother- Started late on this one as well. I really like the continuity of the show especially with the flashbacks. I’m a sucker for detail… and NPH.
- Castle- This is a new show that started last spring and it has Johnny Donnelly Mal Reynolds Adam Logan Dr. Pomatter Dr. Adam Mayfair Captain Hammer Nathan Fillion in it. Playing a cad oh so very well.
- NCIS- You’ve read my blurb about NCIS before, but really, it’s an awesome cast plus they handle the crime storylines along with humor so well.
Something New:
- Glee- They showed the pilot last spring and it was good so I’m trying it again this season. It’s interesting and I’m waiting for the storylines to pick up. I love seeing the Broadway peeps on TV so yay!
- Community- I love Joel McHale. “The Soup” makes me smile so much (with the exception of whenever they show the attention-whore couple whose names I’m not going to mention… I literally mute it during their segment).
- NCIS: LA- The show hasn’t air yet with the exception of the crossover NCIS episodes last season so it might be a miss but I do adore Chris O’Donnell. So, I’m giving it a chance.
Guilty Pleasures:
- One Tree Hill- I’ve watched this show from the beginning but ever since season 3, I can’t handle the absurd drama storylines anymore. However, I’ve been starting to watch it again via DVR.
- GossipGirl- The CW should just be called the “Guilty Pleasure” channel. Anyways, this show is also on the DVR. Sometimes I’ll watch it and sometimes it just gets deleted.
I’ll DVR It:
- Project Runway- I’ll be honest, I DVR all reality shows just so that I can fast-forward through the boring parts. PR has been interesting so far, but I do hope that it’s better than last season.
- So You Think You Can Dance- Time to fess up: Last season was the first time I watched SYTYCD as a whole. I took 15 years of dance before college so I love dancing and watching dancing. BTW, I’m terrible at social dancing because I’m so used to choregraphed dance. LOL.
- Law & Order: SVU- I DVR this because sometimes I just need to fast-forward through scenes. Mariska and Chris are great, though. Richard seems like a sweetie and did you know that he’s Henry Winkler’s (The Fonz) cousin?
- The Daily Show & The Colbert Report- As I mentioned before, I’m not a political person, but these two guys give a spin on currents events that even I can understand. I may not agree with some of their segments but it’s nice to see another view. More entertaining than the CNN that my parents constantly watch.
- The Soup- I’m not in usually on Friday nights so this get DVRed. I can’t believe some of the things that are actually on the air, so I’m thankful that Joel can bring some of that craziness to me.
Side Note: Check out Jennifer Eolin’s Blog for PR recaps. They’re hilarious and Jen’s awesome.
Now, the Emmys. I’m an “Office” gal so I was hoping for some upsets in the Comedy Series, Lead Actor in a Comedy, and Supporting Actor in a Comedy categories. I’m thrilled that Jeff Blitz won for directing, but I was hoping that Steve Carell and Rainn Wilson can get their due, especially Steve. Alec is funny but Steve brings so much heart to Michael Scott even when Michael’s being a complete jerk. Rainn had a really good shot with his tape this year and I wouldn’t have minded if NPH got it either. However, I do, kind-of, see why they went with Jon Cryer; the guy’s bee nominated for the last four years so he was bound to get it one of these days.
As for the show’s Best Comedy Series nomination, I was really hoping that they would knock out “30 Rock.” I’ve watched “30 Rock” in the past and it seemed like a lot of hit and misses. As a whole, I think that “The Office” did better this past season than “30 Rock.” Then again, I saw the tapes that “The Office” sent in and if they had picked different ones, they probably would have won. Just sayin’.
Lots of people around me love “Mad Men.” I tried, really I did, but damn, I just couldn’t get into it. I got so bored so quickly. It just seemed really slow to me. Guess not everything is for everyone. Heh… I don’t have premimum cable so I haven’t seen “TruBlood” or “Damages” but I’ve been told that those are good, too. I am a “Lost” girl (ever since the beginning) so I was happy that Michael Emerson won. I thought his acceptance speech was touching even though a friend of mine thought it was creepy. LOL. So sad that it’s going to end soon, but hopefully it’ll end with a bang.
I might do another post on Wednesday as my last one, since this is pretty long enough as it is.
Cheers!

TV is probably my biggest addiction. I’ve been trying to cut back in the past few years, but I still watch a lot of shows. I still don’t have DVR, so if I’m not home, I’ll record them the old-fashioned way or just watch them online (or in cable repeats) later.
My Must-Sees (in no particular order):
True Blood, So You Think You Can Dance, The Office, Lost and The Amazing Race
New: Glee (LOVE IT!) & Community (totally agree re: Joel McHale & The Soup)
Guilty Pleasures: Gossip Girl & Greek (which I watch online b/c it conflicts w/ GG)
Guiltiest Pleasure: Real World/Road Rules Challenge (don’t watch the regular RW & RR, just challenges, love the athletics mixed w/ drama)
Watch if on or watch later: Heroes (still watching even though last few seasons haven’t been as good as first was), Project Runway, Parks and Recreation, and Southland. I really like How I Met Your Mother too, but I just started watching it on DVD this past summer & haven’t seen last season yet.
About the Emmys, I agree with you. It would be nice to see some shows other than 30 Rock and Mad Men winning some awards. I want the voters to choose who they think is most deserving, but I’d also like to see them spread the wealth. Love that Tina Fey took a jab at NBC for the Jay Leno thing though!
My biggest complaint with the Emmys was the lack of nominations/wins for Battlestar Galactica, an amazing show that just ended. It got a directing & writing & some technical noms, but that’s it. The actors on that show (Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell to name 2) are AMAZING! Many critics agree that it was one of the best shows on TV. They were even given a panel at the United Nations! I think it just got gypped (year after year) because of the sci-fi stigma and less of the voters regularly watched it & only had tapes to go off of. The “consolation prize” was being featured in the Drama reel during the show.
