Love’s Labour’s Lost
So who are we trying to kid… yammering on about Atlantis this and Quantum Physics that? We all know full well, at the the end of the day, we are in this show STRICKLY for the love connections. Am I right? Am. I. right?!
The challenge of this show isn’t just in the riddle solving, the clue gathering. No. Lost is about implementing every manipulative strategy you can possibly think up… to keep your girlfriend or boyfriend from being stolen right out from under the covers! Or to steal’em back.
And it’s not easy. Someone threatens to kill you in front of your girl, practically sticks a gun in your MOUTH! You think, “It couldn’t get any better than this!” She’s crying, begging them to spare your life. You’re good to go. She’s not leaving you for nuthin! She’s gonna make love to you in a bear cage, brother… for the rest of your life. You are golden.
Or so you think.
But I know a few secrets of this Island, and I’ll tell you what… all it take is a few time warps, a nose bleed, and a pair of new glasses and that little lady’s engaged to another dude.
The show makes you work. It does. The love triangles have evolved into quadrangles, and season 6 they’re expected to become a full on dharma style octangle! We need to be prepared. We need to know exactly the right moment and spot in the jungle to say “I love you” or “I’ve always been with you” or “Did you kill Libby?” THIS SHOW IS ABOUT LOVE PEOPLE!
So, before we begin this season of Losting the lights fantastic here at johncabrera.com, I’d like to know where you all stand. Which couple are you rooting for to go all the way. Jate? Skate? Jacket? Suliet? José? Believe it or not, this type of information will be very helpful to me as we prepare to discuss such dense topics as String Theory and ancient myths of the Americas.
Now, in case you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about, or you’re having a hard time envisioning the couples, I’ve designed this handy little Dharma Matchmaking Device. Just click on two heads to create a perfect union. Then let me know your couple in the comments.
Only 1 more day… everyone doing alright? Anyone need water?

Other than Desmond and Penny, the only other pairing I have a preference for is Jacket. Good thing I’m not one who gets overly attached to my couple of choice because I fear I’d be doomed to hating this last season.
Tricialew on 01 Feb 2010 at 10:11 am #
This is completely awesome. Although I have JACKET going on I guess.

I’m rooting for Suliet. But just the other day I was thinking how cute Rose and Bernard are in their jungly-hippy-retiredness. But yeah, I’m totally rooting for Sawyer and Juliet. One thing that I liked about their relationship is that they had 3 years together. I’d like to assume they did some growing (well, Sawyer) rather than just physical attraction, which kinda was with Skate and Jate, at least in the beginning. Also Elizabeth and Josh really delivered in s5 when Kate and Jack came back. All the little details and nuances. Amazing.
I was about to write that I also like they are opposites much more than Jack/Juliet and Sawyer/Kate. But I’m not sure if we can just look from the surface of profession and what looks good on paper. They might be opposites on one end of the spectrum – professions for example – but very similar on the other – conman needs discipline and brains as does researcher/doctor LOL
So Suliet if I had to pick, but I’m a romantic so hopefully everyone ends up with love in the end. Either with another human or with themselves.

a sawyer-bernard forbidden love combo has been brewing for years… thank you for letting them finally express their love.

Suliet!
chadrullman on 01 Feb 2010 at 11:10 am #
Kulate! mmmmmmm.
Pauline on 01 Feb 2010 at 11:10 am #
Well… I think you’ve heard me say that the Three’s Company triangle of Janet, Jack and Chrissy was far more interesting than that of Jack, Kate and Sawyer. That triangle was just annoying and Jate continued to be annoying when they came back to the island. so yeah… I’m a Suliet.
Suliet had a life together based on the love and not on constant crisis like the whole Jate, Jacket, and Skate were. I also think that Kate needs a few years of therapy before she should get into another relationship. Girl needs to learn something about trust and honesty and let go of her past a bit.
That said… I’m looking forward to seeing Emile de Raven back as Claire and would love to see her pair with someone… I just can’t imagine who, unless she sticks long enough around to be woo’d by Miles.
I enjoyed your Dharma Matchmaking Device. Good stuff.

Suliet. Though after the end of Season 5 it looks bad for them.
John Cabrera on 01 Feb 2010 at 11:19 am #
Wait a second, am I the only one here considering José. Remember all those early talks between Rose and Jack… before Bernard was back in the picture?
Pauline on 01 Feb 2010 at 11:30 am #
I thought about that for a moment… and upon further inspection… it would also open up Bernard for Claire. Maybe I’m a Blaire as well as a Suliet and Jose?
Sandy on 01 Feb 2010 at 11:56 am #
Too awesome.
Hanna on 01 Feb 2010 at 12:43 pm #
No Joséing of Rose! Rose and Bernard are the ~real thing.
John Cabrera on 01 Feb 2010 at 12:56 pm #
Sandy, I’m gonna take that as a vote for José.
Hanna & P, I’m with you on Suliet. I feel like I didn’t appreciate enough how awesome it was that they just jumped the entire show 3 years into the future. All these things we didn’t get to see can play in our imaginations better than they could ever play on screen. The courting between Sawyer and Juliet (like did they go on dates… the movies)… the strengthening of the relationship… able to evolve in a stress free environment… the first one in months… or if you go even further back, off of the Island, even longer than that… years… for all of them. Years of sadness and searching.
And finally they could sink into comfortable routine. The safeness and security all of them found not just Juliet and Sawyer.
But yeah, if you had told me in season 3 that Suliet would be the couple to root for… I’d have said not a chance. Yet after 6 seasons of turmoil on the island, people tirelessly searching for something that they couldn’t even describe if you asked them… Saywer and Juliet, may have found it. And although it’s lost to them again… they’ve experienced it… they know it’s there. We have to root for them to get it back.
Rae on 01 Feb 2010 at 1:27 pm #
John, does that mean you think Dharma had a movie theater of sorts?
Molly on 01 Feb 2010 at 1:32 pm #
As far as crack goes, I just clicked two faces and got JULIARD. Who knew dentist + fertility doctor = musical genius!
But in all seriousness, I am rooting for Sun and Jin to get reunited. I honestly believe that is the only reason why she ended up in the present day Island. So yes, I’m all for Sin.
Wow, this post was so hilarious is distracted me from my Jack/Kate/Sawyer/Juliet hate!
Sara on 01 Feb 2010 at 1:37 pm #
James and Juliet all the way.
*resumes chanting “Juliet’s not dead, Juliet’s not dead, Juliet’s not dead…”*

Out of the quadrangle, I tend to prefer whatever relationship Sawyer is in, since I find Jack kind of boring and a bit annoying at times, especially in relationships. I used to be on the Sawyer/Kate bandwagon, but I really loved Sawyer and Juliet together, and it bothered me when Kate came back to the island (even though that thankfully didn’t break up Juliet and Sawyer). So, I’m rooting for Suliet, if there’s still a possibility there. I do want Rose and Bernard to stay together (love them!), as well as Sun and Jin and Penny and Des.
But…I’d really like to see Sayid get a little love again. I love his character and he has had such bad luck with women. Poor guy was searching for his long-lost love Nadia, ends up falling for Shannon, who was incredibly annoying but I still felt for Sayid when she died. He gets off the island, is reunited with Nadia, gets married and then she’s killed. Then, he meets a woman whom he’s interested in and she happens to be be working for the enemy. Poor guy just can’t catch a break! I’d like to see him finally happy, love-wise.

Where’s Hurley? He could be linked with a giant Dharma Mayonnaise jar.
If I have to pick from these, I’d go with Jacket and Skate.
shanemd on 01 Feb 2010 at 1:42 pm #
I’m in the show strictly for the mystery.
Could care less, especially for Jack and Kate. Hope both those characters die before the end of the season.
Erin on 01 Feb 2010 at 1:48 pm #
Suliet, all the way.
John Cabrera on 01 Feb 2010 at 2:15 pm #
Rae… I totally wrote movie theater into my reply and then erased it cause I thought it sounded too corney…. yes… I do imagine there’s a movie theater… and I do imagine the went on a date there and saw like singing in the rain or something… only because they didn’t have any new stuff.
It’s kind of true about Sayid. I’m surprised that guy is still in the game.
Kyle I almost choked on my sandwich while reading your reply. Thank you and damn you. lol.
shanemd, I’m gonna take that as a vote for Bernun.

okay, as we all know, I’m so sadly behind. BUT, I have heard about some of these relationships, and knowing what I do about the characters, I’m definitely a fan of Sawyer and Juliet. Kate does not deserve Sawyer.
also, I’m just gonna say it, I started watching the show because I love Dom Monaghan, and I adored the Charlie/Claire storyline. god, that was precious. I am not sure it’s possible, but I just had to throw that out there.
I also will say, when I was at Borders on Saturday, Lost Season3 was tempting, but ultimately the double Jane Austen set won out. really, it’s hard for anything to compete with Austen in my heart, so the fact that I even debated for awhile says a lot about how much I want to catch up with Lost. I own the first two seasons, and that’s about all I’ve seen with any regularity, so far. it’ll probably be about 2 years after the series finale that I finally catch up. but I’ll get there eventually!
xoxoxo

Well, besides rooting Sun+Jin, Rose+Bernard and Desmond+Penny I’m mostly in love with the love of Sawyer+Juliet.
I loathe Kate and Jack and feel that they are perfect for each other because they suck so hard. They are both self absorbed and annoying and bring others down, so they may as well just continue to bring each other down and leave everyone else alone.
But Juliet and Sawyer are so good for each other and it breaks my heart to think that those crazy kids won’t be able to live a long, happy life together.
jennhoney on 01 Feb 2010 at 8:53 pm #
I thought I was 100% Suliet and then I saw so many other options ~curve ball~
Sack
Roulette
Sawnard
José
no love for so many other characters, poor smoke monster.
this is so much fun, John!
and of course Dharmaville has a movie theater, you can’t throw a rock on that island without hitting a camera or viewing station.
kelseroo on 01 Feb 2010 at 10:11 pm #
I’m rooting for Suliet and Jate. And Hurlnaise
John Cabrera on 01 Feb 2010 at 10:28 pm #

Ok…I feel ganged up on but I am still for Jack & Kate…call me a sucker but I just love them together…Rose & Bernard come in second in my life though…cute old couples enjoying no drama.

Actually laughed out loud with José! but no, even though I love that couple name, I’m Skate all the way. And I’m surprised to see the lack of Skate love here, sucks, but yeah, their love will prevail. I’m telling you now.
