Not the Holy Scripture… but rather holy ActionScripting! Good Lord, I had no idea what I was getting myself into with this math. I’ve been staring at the computer for hours trying to figure out the code that’ll make this sucker work. Math math math math math. But I finally got it.

I’m no longer in my office, but I think I can remember a small piece of it… check this out:

function lame(g) {
y = 0
score1 = 0
for (w=1, w<8; w++) {
s = "b";
y = y + 1;
if (eval("win"+w+s) == eval("p"+g+"_"+s+y) {
score 1 = score1 + 11;
} else {
for (x=1; x<12; x++) {
if (eval("win"+w+s) == eval("p"+g+"_"+s+x) {
if (x < w) {
a = w;
b = x;
} else {
b = w;
a = x
}
score1 - score1 + (10 - (a - b));
}
}

So You Think You Can Code? Mmm… it’s mostly delusion. *sigh*

Anyway, I’m not sure if I’m gonna have this baby up by the results show tonight, but if I do, I have to warn you that it’s not gonna look very pretty. Just the basics: each of our picks and our current score. Once I’ve nailed down the backbone, I’ll spend my free time putting in the bells and whistles.

Oh, and something occurred to me while I was working on this… what happens if there’s a tie? What happens if there’s multiple ties??! @seangunn has assured me it’s very unlikely, but I’m gonna be safe anyway (we’re in a recession after all).

So what I’ve decided is to use the tweet bonuses for such a situation. In the event of a tie, it’ll be broken by comparing the number of bonuses accumulated by the tying players. So it makes the bonuses a little more important than for just upping your score.

And to be clear, they’re available for us to nab every episode. Even if you’re happy with the pick you have for that week, you can still tweet the same two contestants you think are going home… if you’re right, you get the full 11 points as well as the half point bonus.

So, yeah……….

…….. does my voice sound strange to you? It sounds kind of staticky… digital. Oh right, you can’t actually hear my voice. Well, it does… hmm.

(Whoa, I just noticed that my Zemantha plugin has suggested some tags for this posts… I’m assuming based on the biblical nature of the first few sentences… Good Lord, Religious text, Army National Guard, American Military University, Sports, and Sarah Palin… which to pick, which to pick).
