Bloggerton… bloggiefrog… bligblog
Can you tell I’m totally going crazy? That title should be arrested. But she’s all I got.
I’m sure you guys have noticed a significant drop in my WordPress blogging during the first half of July. Only 4 posts, and all SYTYCD related?! You’d think with an FDL to puff up that number, this would be a heavy month for me. But bottom line is, I’m swamped like you wouldn’t believe.
I’m in month two of dog sitting @cosimo179‘s dogs. I love these little fur biscuits, but man… dogs are not easy for a guy like me.
I’ve also been working overtime to finish this first draft of my script. Some of you are probably thinking… “First draft? Didn’t I read a tweet from him a while back saying he’d completed the first draft.” Kind of… this is a very different project, and I guess I’m about due for a post about some of the details.
The bulk of our work on this draft was finished last Sunday, so I should be able to put more of my creative energy into other projects… blogging being one.
Speaking of which, can we talk about Tumblr for a sec. Those who follow me on Twitter have probably noticed I’ve been really getting into it this week… kind of with a vengeance. Not a vengeance towards anyone in particular, just a vengeance towards the awesomeness of that blogging platform. It’s such a great alternative to this long form blogging… especially these days.
The great thing about it is, if you don’t have it in you to create, for whatever reason (dog sitting, script writing, jury duty)… you can rely on your network of Tumbleros to help you discover content. I just coined Tumbleros, btw, to replace my previous Tumblerinos… Tumblr seems Spanish or Hispanic to me for some reason.
The site is actually designed for you to find things more more than create them yourself. Which I really love. It encourages you to reblog. Basically, you see other people’s work and if it inspires you, with a click of a button you display it as your own… with credit to those who’ve come before you, of course. Not a totally new concept… sort of like a retweet… but I just love Tumblr’s implimentation of it.
And I think this is a very important artistic practice too.
I guess I don’t really believe ideas are created. I feel like they either come to you, or you stumble across them. You could argue there’s some subconscious creation going on, as the brain forms an idea out of memories… but I’m of the camp that believes no idea really belongs to you, as original as it may seem. You’re just the antenna and the vessel that allows it to first be found and then set free. So more important than how you share it with the world (the creation)… is your ability to find it or be open to it finding you in the first place.
Well what better way to hone your skills at idea discovery, than to blog on a network that promotes discovery?
I have a feeling Tumblr or similar platforms (Posterous) are going to play a bigger part in my social media life the months (maybe years) ahead. But I want to figure out how to use it better… for me. Maybe turn it into a sort of workshop or incubator. That’d be cool.
Okay, this post is starting to ramble. So, Tumblr… if you’ve ever considered blogging, but put it off cause you thought it would either be too time consuming or too difficult… Tumblr might be perfect for you. At the very least, a good set of training wheels for longer form blogging. Also, it’s a fairly young platform, so if you sign up now, you can probably still nab a cool username.
And if you’re already on Tumblr, look me up… so I can totally nab some of your brilliant ideas… which aren’t really your ideas anyway. Ha!

hmm, I’m glad you brought this up. I’ve been looking at Tumblr and Posterous, over the past few weeks, trying to decide which I would prefer. Do you ever use Posterous?
Is one of the drafts you are working on a version of A Wrinkle in Time? Cause I got to tell ya, your tweet was the last straw. I had to dig through storage to find my copy and re-read it…IT…last weekend, thanks for that!

Haha ok being totally honest, I got a Tumblr account after you said in one of your posts you’ll be checking it out (stalker much? lol). But really, I was thinking about getting an account a couple of months before that, so, you were the push. I still haven’t gotten that obsessed with it (not like with Twitter, for instance), but yeah, I agree, the cool thing of Tumblr is checking what people tumbl ¿? and reblog it if you like it. And the only thing I’d complain about, though, is that there’s not a recommended-for-you directory with people to follow, or is it there and I’m I totally missing it?
Anyways, yay for new posts!
and keep’em coming, here and in Tumblr.

Every time I’m about to go to tumblr to tumble something or get tumbled… my duck knocks on the window in an attempt to lure me back outside.
However, I enjoyed your musings on creative antennae.
And a certain phrase in this blog reminded me of a tune I haven’t heard in a while so I had to blip it. Thanks.

Itz, yeah, Tumblr totally has that. On your Dashboard click on the link that says “following # people” in the yellow Dashboard box. That’ll show you all the people you’re following. In the upper right is your grid of “tumblr crushes” and below that is a list of recommendations of users to follow.
But there’s an even cooler way to find people. Click on the link at the top that says Directory. Then click on a tag that interests you. You’ll get a list of the most popular Tumbleros in that category tag. They’re popular for a reason… many because they blog or reblog really good stuff.
Jenn, I actually thought I had one… but I was wrong. So I just signed up for Posterous. I recently read a piece at Mashable comparing the two. I think my preference for Tumblr has a lot to do with community… and customization. Both services give you a pretty slick, compartmentalized control panel… but like Facebook, Posterous’ look is uniform across the site… meaning everyone’s blogs look like the Posterous control panel. Tumblr lets you use a theme in the same way you do your own blog. And there are hundreds of themes to choose from. Posterous seems less about connecting and discovery… and more about lifestreaming. So Posterous has an power suite of technologies to make that as simple as possible. It’s hard to say which will come out ahead in the race of the mini-blogging services… but for now, I’m doing Tumblr. It’s suits how I use social media.

I signed up on Tumblr and posted my first and only post May 30th. I haven’t really been back yet. Today, I thought about posting something that’s been on my mind that past few days… my ethnicity and my Daughter’s and which ethnic traits are more dominate in each of us, making us look similar yet different… and rambling thoughts along those lines, lol. Just haven’t been in the right mindset to actually write anything… nor do I feel anyone would read it or care about something personally detailed like that. Basically, I feel my Tumblr page will just be an open diary of random thoughts – sort of, lol. But, your idea to reblog others’ posts sounds cool. Maybe I’ll start doing that, get new ideas (as you said, from others) and get into the groove of it. We’ll see. BTW, for anyone who may read this and would like to add me, and have me add them back on Tumblr (since I only know of and follow two people so far) my link is: lyrac.tumblr.com – Just my first name spelled backward. I didn’t nab a cool username. I’ve been trying more often to use my first name, to easier I.D. my pages, but Caryl was already used, as well as other forms I tried. So, on a whim I typed my name backward and it was available and I just went with it.
See! I ramble too much ^ ! Maybe I’m better off reading and sticking to the occasional reblog vs. posting my own blogs, lol.
Good luck with the scriptwriting, dog-sitting and all… Looking forward to hearing more about your projects too!

Pauline, I listened to it twice, and I have no idea what line you mean. But I imagine you’ll keep me in suspense until I share more about Banjo Archers.

I get a lot out of Tumblr too – I love how I can be inspired and share that inspiration with just a few clicks. Whilst I don’t see me losing my blog altogether, Tumblr and Twitter have definitely had an impact on the number of longer posts that I write now.
On another note, the idea of complete originality frightens me a little – I am never convinced that an idea that comes to me (especially when it comes to writing) is totally my own or whether I have taken all my experiences and mashed them up to make a new idea.

One of the coolest parts of my morning routine includes checking out my Tumblr feed while having my coffee. I haven’t blogged or reblogged much lately but I love it! The mobile app is great too so I can Tumble in the go or view the feed dashboard anywhere thereby reducing the suckitivity level of waiting in almost any line. I’ve found most of the people I follow through a re-blog by someone else. By the way, Sincere thanks for that.

ME? Suspense? Don’t you know by now that I am no good as suspense?
You wrote, “dogs are not easy for a guy like me.” and as soon as my eyes skimmed over “guy like me” my brain instantly started playing “Girls Like Me.” from the movie Valley Girl. Had to blip it.
Was that too big of a leap?
P.S.
When you finally tell us what a Banjo Archer is… you’re getting a pony!

Duh! thx JP and now I’ll go and explore more Tumblr accounts
can’t believe I didn’t know where those follow-recommendations were!

I love tumblr. It’s great to be “allowed” to steal stuff from people, haha. Or at least, spread the cool, fun and nice stuff we all want to find on the great internets. I like how you say it; they encourage to reblog other peoples stuff.
(Oh no…banjo archer…another sleepless night without the knowledge of what a banjo archer is…)

Marte, sorry for the delay in approving the comment. I’ve been slack. Anyway, more on Banjo Archers in August.
