Lost on the Subway

Okay, so hypothetically speaking… let’s say you were, oh I don’t know, hanging out in Ana Lucia’s Tiger Pit… and you suddenly remember you need to get to the Hydra for a breakfast meeting with Ben. Here’s the route I’d take:

I’d first, of course, hop on the Purple Line A Train westbound to the Tailies crash site, switch to the M Train southbound to The Staff. Then I’d switch to the Blue Line P Train northbound loop to the Drug Plane, where I’d switch to the Green Line south… any of those trains will get you there… except maybe the R… I think it only runs on weekends.

Somewhere in My Hall

Last summer, @cosimo179 and I were deep in contract negotiations for our web series, H+. I guess the waiting was starting to drive us a bit crazy, so we decided to channel some of that nervous energy into a little weekend project. Something that would allow us to sort of shake it out.

Since Cosimo and I both have a strong interest in dance (Cosimo is a contemporary dancer and choreographer himself), we figured it could also serve as an experiment for a future dance project on the web.

So we invited nine dancers to my apartment one Saturday morning. They had no idea what we were planning to do and no preparation. And over the next three hours, Cosimo choreographed and I shot this video. Later that night we edited it. And now, almost a full year later, we’re sharing it for the first time here.

  1. No… it’s not a coincidence that So You Think You Can Dance premieres this week. ;)
  2. Some of you may recognize SYTYCD star, Will Wingfield, in the video.
  3. My sister is the one being swung around in a circle.
  4. It was an insanely talented and fast working group of dancers… I was blown away.

And if you’ve seen the Wisely video Through any Window, you’ll probably recognize the location… except it’s from the opposite angle. Yes, this is my apartment. I’ve done a few projects here over the past decade.

The song is a remix of the Bedroom Walls tune Somewhere in Newhall. I love this band. Check out their other music on iTunes if you get a chance.

Lost Season 5

How did this start?

Well, I was hanging with @james_gunn earlier this year… actually it was a bunch of the Gunns and several others… and we were all talking about Lost. At a certain point, I took the stage, and over the course of an hour flew this small band of Losties on a magical journey through “nerd”… Seriously… at least two people walked away from the conversation. I remember one person saying, “okay, this has gotten a little too dorky for me” and another later saying, “Is JP still talking about Lost?”

BTW, a lot of my friends call me JP… did you know that? You can call me JP too, if you’d like. Or not. There are plenty of friends who call me both.

Anyway, I laid down my “Lost is Atlantis” Theory going into much of the same detail I have here with you… and by the end of the monologue, the few that still remained (James included) were like, “dude.”

That week, James surprised me with a tweet to his twitter followers saying I had a Lost Theory that needed to be shared. Suddenly, dozens of people were tweeting me to give it up.

I was like… “wow… okay.”

So I shared.

And the response was so overwhelmingly positive, that I shared some more. And the next thing I knew, these Lost posts had become, not only a big part of the writing here at my blog, my proudest writing actually… but a new way to engage with my you, my readers. To really get to know you. Collaborate with you.

Anyway, I thought it might be nice if my last post of the Marathon was an easy list of all my posts this season… along with a small bit of commentary on each.

So let’s do it.
