More Crazy

So here’s Crazy Love. This film was made during a 48 hour film competition I participated in years ago called Instant Films. It’s a really charming little movie, written by Jenelle Riley, and it turned out to be one of the best film experiences I’ve had.

Here is how the competition worked: She and a group of writers had 8 hours to write their scripts (from a Friday evening until the next morning). Then I and a group of directors were randomly paired with the scripts, and we literally chose our actors out of a hat. We then had 36 hours to return with a finished film.

I stumbled in with my master tape about 10 minutes before the deadline. An hour later I was sitting in a theater with about 300 people watching all the films. I was so tired I fell asleep.

But we ended up winning the competition, and the film went on to play at a couple festivals… it even garnered a Critics Pick at Palm Springs International Short Film Festival.

Anyway, if you haven’t already watched it… enjoy.

Who’s The Man?

I now present to you the new HD version of The Man Who Invented the Moon. Just like Affair Game this one has gone through another pass of color treatment and a few extra bells and whistles were added. Super Amazing’s outfit is brighter, Eddie’s beard is bushier, and Sean’s performance has gotten a touch more boomastic-mister-fantastic. Check it at the door.

UPDATE: So it seems as though Vimeo’s encoder didn’t play nice with my video. The audio starts going out of sync around halfway through the movie. Reading their forums it seems to be an occasional bug with their video encoding software. I’m in the process of reuploading it to Vimeo now. So hopefully this will be resolved in the morning. Sorry guys.

UPDATE: Okay we’re back up. I’ve checked this version for any audio sync problems, and there doesn’t seem to be any.

Maybe it’s Affair Game

I’m right now in the process of upgrading my project site unboiled.com. I hope to have a completely new design of the site by the end of the month. Well, I guess NEW design is kind overstating it, since there really isn’t much design there right now… just an embedded video player.

Anyway, part of my process includes encoding new high resolution versions of a bunch of my films and video projects. I’m using Vimeo, which as I mentioned before is my favorite web-video service these days. It’s gonna be a slow process, though. They only give me 500mb of upload bandwidth per week. But each project I do upload I’ll be posting here first for all who’d like to watch. Some of the films went through another round of touch ups and all of them are sharper and richer in color.

Here’s ‘Affair Game’ which I directed back in 2004. Stars Hamish Linklater, Liza Weil, and Irina Björklund. Written by Jessica Goldberg. Director of Photography, Kenneth Seng.

And this is ‘Maybe it’s Albuquerque’, which a few of us threw together in 2005. Shot by Christal Weatherly on a trip back from Minneapolis. Written by Lee Kirk. On vocals and guitar – Eddie Ebell.

Early in the morning

Here’s a higher quality version of the music video I directed last year. For all of you Office fans who don’t know, it stars Jenna Fischer. I just uploaded it to Vimeo in HD. And it’s true 720p so it looks really nice. This embeded version isn’t HD unfortunately. For the time being Vimeo is only letting people watch HD videos at their site. But it sounds like that’s gonna change soon, which is really exciting. I can’t wait to be able to embed HD video into all of my sites.

Anyway, for those who are interested, click the link and check it out. And I’m gonna be uploading more HD stuff there soon so stay tuned.
