Hello.
Simple title for a simple post.
Hello. How are you? How is your family? Been a while. Been a long while, huh?
A lot has happened over the past several months since my last real post. Where do I begin? How do I even start listing the many adventures I’ve been on this year?
Well, how about with a list? Lists are always a good way to list things.
1) H+ is almost ready to be shown. Five friggin years, and this chapter of my life is… wow. It’s really hard to explain how I feel. But I guess proud is a good all-encompassing word for it. We’re officially unveiling at Comic Con on Thursday. Any of you attending? We’ll be in the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront… 2pm. I promise, you’ll dig what you see. I’m willing to eat my shoe if you don’t. And I stepped in dog shit when I was in Berlin last week. I got most of it off, but it’s still in some of the cracks. You know what I mean.
2) I’ve been in Germany for the past couple of months. Amazing as always. One step closer to language proficiency… but not quite there yet. I’m just starting to have all-by-myself conversations with people who can’t tell that when I say, “Ja”, “stimmt” or “genau”, what I’m really thinking is “you’re going too fast, I have no idea what you just said.” That’s a big step, I’d say.
3) It’s been months since The Homes had it’s season finale and I really do miss that show. Here’s a longer trailer for the series that was recently released. Relive the entire series in 5 minutes. And for those of you wondering about a season 2… I’ve been listening. I just don’t have much to tell you at this time. But when I do, I promise, you’ll be the first to know.
4) I’ve been doing a lot of writing lately. A lot! And while I don’t think this year will bring much more in the way of production for me (god help me if it does), my hope is that all this writing brings a very busy 2012 production year.
5) TV shows. I picked up a couple in my spare time. Many of you will be happy to know that I’m now an official Dr. Who fanboy (in fact, I’m gonna look for some Who nerdiness at Comic Con). And yes, it would have been amazing to watch BSG with all of you when it was on the air, but I am still loving the frak out of that motherfrakking show. I started it a couple weeks ago and I’m almost finished. Man, that show is seriously frakking with my mind. (it would have also been nice to make “frakking” jokes with all of you back when the show was on the air.)
Okay, not a super long list… but there is more. Little day to day things that I won’t bore you with. And some more personal things that I’ll share with you soon.
And yeah, blogging has been hard for me of late. I’d be lying if I said I don’t really know why. Truth is, I do. I’ve just lost the bug for it. Maybe bug is the wrong word. It implies a sickness.
So how about this?
When we fall into a routine, our brain builds neural pathways to help us think more efficiently. But then when there’s a dramatic change to that routine, the pathways lay dormant. Sometimes the brains tries to use them anyway, but eventually they’re dismantled, we forget… and the sense of loss passes.
I’m trying to get back into it. Really. It’s just gonna take some time to build those pathways again. So I’ve decided to make a big push for it… A campaign that I hope will jump-start my blogging inspiration and return me to my glory days of social networking. Starting on August 1st, I’m gonna do a blog-a-thon. Not for charity or anything, just a frakload of blogging over the course of one month. That’s right. One post a day, right here at johncabrera.com, expanding on all of the topics from the list above… as well as many more. Twenty six more to be exact.
I’ve done this before and it wasn’t easy… I imagine this time it’ll be harder since I’m very out of shape. But bear with me. The first couple posts are gonna suck. I promise you that. They’ll suck beyond your suckiest dreams. They may even suck so bad that they will be awesome. Or they may suck so bad that they pass through awesome only to become sucky again… then awesome… then sucky once more. It’s hard to know exactly where they will land. But if you stick with them… if you stick with me… I’m sure they’ll get at least a little bit better. And who knows… maybe one day this ruined city of a blog will be rebuilt. Perhaps one day the larks will return to its skies and bold new tales- oh who am I kidding- ancient tales will once again be inscribed upon its walls.
By the way, totally off topic… I was just about to press publish on this post, when a car horn outside my apartment beeped the theme from The Godfather. A sign?
