Away to the Navy Yard

So, I have to ask really quickly: Does anyone here watch “NCIS”? I started watching the re-runs on USA because well, on USA, it’s either re-runs of “NCIS” or “Law & Order: SUV,” right? Heh… anyways, after a few episodes, I got really into. And with USA and their random re-run marathons, I was able to catch up with the most of the series.I didn’t like season four as much due to the La Grenouille storyline except for a few episodes here and there, including “Twisted Sister” which this handsome devil was in. ;) Happy Birthday, John.

Wednesday

Some of you may already know that Wednesday is a ’special’ day for me. 34 years ago on Wednesday, my mom and dad and a few doctors met me for the first time. And I like my mom and dad a lot (the doctors are cool too, although we don’t really keep in touch)… so yeah… ’special’ day.

In honor of it, and as a way to forget the fact that one more year of my life is over… I’m going on a little field trip with some friends.

As I get closer to the day, I’ll reveal more. But here’s what I’ll say for now:

Stories of the Pictures

Heh… since John brought it up, I should say a little bit about each picture, shouldn’t I?

This is from a Middle Eastern restaurant in Adams Morgan called “Mama Ayesha.” I’ve never had Middle Eastern food before I came to DC, so the picture kind-of represents the bigger perspective of the world and life that I’ve gotten since moving here from my hometown. Also, this restaurant is kind-of a hole in a the wall place. Coming from the Woodley Park metro, you cross the bridge heading towards Adams Morgan, and if you just glance at the building, it’s not much. You might even think it’s abandoned. However, it’s not and it’s quite beautiful inside.

Winds Blow and Tumbleweeds… Tumble

No this isn’t a post about Tumblr, although I’m sure I’ll find another spot to throw in a reference. I’m just having a great time with that social network lately. I think it’s mostly replaced my magazine reading.

Oh, who am I kidding, it’s replaced my brain.

Okay, no Tumblr no Tumblr. Not here. This is my blog, my Wordpress. And she’s been feeling a bit neglected lately.

I have to imagine there are more than a few of you wondering, “what the hell is going on with your blog right now?” Well to catch everyone up, it basically goes like this:

During the months of June and July, I hosted a So You Think You Can Dance Fantasy League here (which I learned very early on was not technically a Fantasy League… but whatever). There were 29 players, and in the end, only one was victorious. That person was- still is- Marivic Tagala, known affectionately by her online associates as @sorano916. And she played a fierce game. Seriously, she was ruthless.

The prize for winning, is that for 1 month she is a collaborator here at my blog. Her and I will both be writing posts. Not necessarily about the same things but our hope is to eventually get in tune with each other’s blogging style… and then ultimately… to mind meld.

No?….. Okay.

And speaking of style, an important part of the prize is that she gets to decorate the blog itself; add some touches of her own. So she’s replaced all my photography with images that speak to her taste. That means for the next month, no pictures of me being artsy and intense. She also gets to link all her social networks to the corresponding badges in the sidebar. After all, she needs to feel at home here.

Anyway, I asked her to send me a bunch of pics that sort of represent who she is. And so the series you see changing in the header with every page view is what she delivered. Which actually integrates quite nicely, I have to say. Try refreshing the page several times to see different ones from the series (9 images in total). She took all of the pics in Washington DC where she lives… and I imagine they all have some significance to her.

For example, as I was prepping the graphic of the Cathedral (or maybe it’s just a church), I wondered what the story was behind that. Then the following day on Twitter @sorano916 sent a response to a general “how is everyone?” tweet, saying she was off to sing at mass. And a piece of the puzzle locked into place.

I thought it was cool.

Anyway, Marivic, glad to have you a part of my blog. I promise, I’ll be spending more time here during your stay. I don’t want you to think I hit the road as soon as you moved in.

Although… have you tried Tumblr yet? It’s pretty fun. (ha! I told you I’d get it in)
